He said, if the people are on his side, there is no need to flee anywhere. On the occasion of the upcoming elections, he told the voters, ‘We have to be vigilant that we do not mortgage our conscience to any brand, any party.’

Hasnat Abdullah said, ‘The source of power is not Delhi, the source of power is not Bashundhara Group, the source of power is not S Alam. The source of power is not any businessman. The source of power is only the people. If the people are on his side, there is no need to flee to Delhi, there is no need to stay in London. If the people are on his side, birth and death take place in these 56,000 square miles. We don’t want to depend on any Pindi, any Delhi, any America.’
Calling for a leadership election based on merit, Hasnat Abdullah said, ‘The one who is popular, the one who reaches the people, the one who understands the language of the people, the problems of the people; we will elect him as the leader. In our country, leaders are made before the elections. They enter the area with sacks of money from Dhaka, they buy police and agents the night before the election. They buy the OC of the area. They buy the SP. Our area was like this. It is time to be aware. The leader who brings money, remember that the leader will give you money one day and enslave you for five years. The leader who gives you money before the election, that leader will become your master later.’
